A 35-year-old man is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the fatal stabbing of a local councillor in the early hours of Friday morning. The suspect was arrested after allegedly handing himself over to police following the death of 46-year-old Sello Molefi, a councillor at the City of Matlosana Local Municipality. The North West police say they were alerted to the incident at approximately 05:35 on Friday, February 13. The police say officers responded to a call reporting a stabbing outside a tavern in the Klerksdorp Central Business District along Voortrekker Street. “Upon arrival, police found Molefi lying on the ground with a stab wound to the neck. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene and certified him dead shortly thereafter,” said provincial police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh. The accused remains in custody and is expected to face a charge of murder when he appears before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today.
