South African martial arts legend Sensei Herman Kordom has once again raised the nation’s flag on the global stage, receiving the prestigious Silver Lifetime Achievers Award at the Martial Arts Hall of Honours Mega Weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey, held from January 30 to February 1. The award recognises martial artists who have dedicated more than four decades to advancing the discipline through training, mentorship, and leadership. This latest honour adds to an already distinguished career. He was previously inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Fullerton, California. Over the years, Sensei Kordom has built a respected academy and proudly represented South Africa 12 times on the global Ju Jitsu stage, competing internationally and showcasing local talent to the world. Accepting the award, Sensei Kordom said: “This honour represents every student I have trained and every opportunity I have had to represent my country. Martial arts is about discipline, respect, and lifelong growth. I am grateful to have carried the South African flag 12 times on the world stage. This recognition strengthens my commitment to developing future champions.” With more than 40 years devoted to martial arts, Sensei Kordom has trained thousands of students and coached numerous champions. Beyond competition, he has championed youth empowerment, self-defence education, and character development within communities. The Silver Lifetime Achievers Award places him among an elite group of global martial artists whose influence extends far beyond medals and trophies.
