The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Desbo Mohono, has welcomed Amogelang Matuane as a Member of the Provincial Legislature representing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Her appointment follows the passing of the late Modiegi Dikolomela on February 2. Dikolomela served on several committees of the Legislature, including Agriculture and Economic Development, as well as the Multiparty Women’s Caucus. Matuane, who hails from Taung, was nominated by the EFF to fill the casual vacancy. She previously served as a ward councillor at the Greater Taung Local Municipality. According to the statement from the legislature, in terms of Section 107 of the Constitution, a Member of the Legislature may not perform his or her functions until he or she has sworn or affirmed faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution in accordance with Schedule 2. Matuane has taken the prescribed oath. Welcoming her to the Legislature, Mohono said Matuane will contribute to the institution’s three mandates of oversight, law-making and public participation. “We welcome her as our member, as we believe that she will work hard on fulfilling the work of different portfolios and select committees of the legislature. We will continue to celebrate the spirit of the late Hon. Dikolomela, who played a significant role on various committees,” said Mohono.
